Treasure is nigh video game art

These illustrations are used in the ongoing collaboration between Arts Council Uk, Circa69 and myself for the Treasure Is Nigh video game. Treasure Is Nigh is a prototype 2D side scrolling adventure game with the focus on puzzels and exploration.

At this moment, we have a functioning prototype featuring sci fi illustrative backgrounds and the main character of chapter 1. The game is still in its prototype stage. This game was presented to user testers on Itch and the Level 3 game festival to get feedback in preparation to get sponsorships and ongoing funding to complete this game.

Story and idea

We decided to set the game about 5000 years in the future. We created cities and streets from our era mixed with future tech to create mysterious world. In terms of stylisation , we went for a retro comic. For environment design, we designed present style streets with futuristic elements and alien style letters to make a believable futuristic Earth set in 5000 years time.

In our gameplay, we want the player to be curious in the details, take notes on those details, and use them to solve the puzzels. Below is the game’s background artwork work, character designs and cutscene art.

design strategy

At the start of the project, BrightBlack and I planned to produce a set characters, reference sheets, branding guidelines , a 25 word story summary and visual style as a way to getting Treasure Is Nigh pitched effectively. We created these assets to help us to deliver a pitch that will clarify a lot of the game’s details to investors.

As of April of 2023, I am in the process of applying for a final fund to create 4 chapters of the game, animated cutscenes, collaborate with my network within the South East of England for user testing and market the game.
